I will comment that, in my limited experience, later Stanley irons aren't worth a postcard home. I've got an extra iron for my No. 78 that's about five years recent, and it looks like they took it off the line halfway through - huge grinding marks on the back side opposite the bevel, which results in a kind of toothing iron effect at the edge, not the greatest temper, etc. If you find the iron in this is unsatisfactory, LV, Hock, and others make replacement irons that are a lot less expensive than buying a new plane from them.
