I bought some birdseye maple veneer for a project, and the seller threw in about twice as much as he advertised - I just used some of the extra stuff over the weekend. I bought a cherry "bat blank" once when I needed a leg blank. Since the seller thought someone would actually make a baseball bat out of it, he selected a very straight, tight grained piece. Both of these worked out well. The third purchase, I aksed the seller a question, and determined that the wood she had up for sale would not meet my needs. She suggested that her husband custom mill what I needed. That worked out best of all. Bottom line - as with any purchase - let the buyer beware. Make sure you are comfortable you know what you are getting; check out comps locally; ask questions if in doubt. Don't hesitate to walk away - another deal will come by soon.

>My experience has been very good, too, especially when dealing with small sawyers. I've entered probably 10 or so transactions. The only bad transaction involving wood was with a seller of guitar necks who didn't understand the difference between a dovetail and screw attachment to the body. Paypal to the rescue. :)

>I bought some wood recently from the place you speak of. One board was decent and another was a complete piece of junk. It had severe cracks and could be used for nothing but firewood. My other experiences were also mixed.
My advise is to go to a local lumber supplier and buy the lumber that you can touch and feel. The bay can be expensive and disappointing.
