What is a universal bevel? *LINK*

>We took a break from pouring a foundation patch today and cruised up to an estate sale two blocks away. Not much there, but I picked up a cute little 4" "universal bevel" (picture; sorry for the darkness, but our digital camera wasn't behaving). I'm a bit confused, though: it looks just like a regular sliding bevel to me, and only somewhat like Starrett's universal bevel (at link). Is there a definition of this phrase, or is it like "warranted superior," a marketing term? Or is this a product from the Universal Bevel Company?
It's not a great tool - die-cast stock, plain metal blade - but for $1.00, it was a worthwhile buy at 2% of the price of Lee Valley's (truly lustworthy) 4" bevel.
Different, but related topic: we also hit the Friends of the (local county) Library sale Wednesday night, and I've got my winter reading in between Pop WW issues: two Woodwright books, a 1970's (from the cover) carving book by Percy Blandford, a Dona Meilach book from ages ago, and a Wood Mag "Home Workshop Planner," mostly repeating what I know but some worthwhile ideas, all for $1 each.
