>Amsterdam for a couple days, night train to Salzburg Aus. Rented a car, stayed in a 15th Cent. Palace in Lofer AUS. Did the Neuswainstien , Wiess Church, Ettal trip the next day. Monday drove the M. Benz to Vience Italy, sent the night there. Next depart Ven. about 10am raced out of Italy at about 170 KPH (110MPH) back to Austria and went to one of the coolest Castle I've EVER seen, Hockhosterwitz, 14 gates, they made a video game of this castle. We're not done here, race thru the back roads to make the gate for the Grossglockner Glacier/ pass. 24 hairpin turns and several thousand feet of elevation gain and loss. SWMBO failed to see the humor but after just making the gate closing we made it thru before it got dark on the other. I'm sure the tranny was hot when we got done.
Next day Eagles Nest and the Salt mine of Brechtesgaden. Thursday back to Salzburg and a night trian to Trier Germany (up by Luxemberg) the "Oldest city in Germany" Roman ruins here. Stayed in a Concrete "Block House" in a Eco Park in a little town Leiwen, (pronounced 'Liven') Sat. did a cruise up, (south), the Rhine river to a wine fest and fireworks show.
Car trip to Hiedleburg Castle our old quaters in Darmstadt and a ferry across the Rhine to Neirstien to a little local bottle we used to buy from. Bought a dozen bottles, brought back 11 and a bottle of Pear Brandy, (a request from one of my sons). Drove the 'Middle Rhine', stopped at Marksburg Castle and the town of Rudeshiem. Went to a Square Dance that night.
Next leg was a going to take 4 seperate train to get from Trier to Rothenburg, ( Walled in city west of Nurnberg Decide to keep the car and drive there. Turns out by adding 3 day to the week the car costed a 100 euros LESS?!?!? got to Rothenburg and that night found out there was a strike by the RR Engineers that day! Dodged a big bullet there. Stopped in at Eltz castle on the way. This one was never destoried and had 34 generations on the original owner still in control of it.
Spent the rest of the day and the next there walking the wall and the sites. Next day off to Dinkelsbuhl. The colors of the houses was unbelievable, orange shutters on a green house next to a Lavender one with light purple next to a blue one... and it went on like this block after block, every color combination you could think of.
Stayed in Stuttgart that night plan was to visit SWMBO's Nephew stationed there, he get sent TDY the morning we were to arrive.
Next morning turned in the car, and took the train back to Amsterdam put the bags in locker a raced off to catch a tour outside the city . The couple we were traveling with wanted to see the old windmills, and Clogs being made.
Yesterday flew home
