New shop record for #46 rehab
Jim Reed @ Tallahassee
>I think I set a new shop record for plane rehab. Yesterday I was finally able to remove the stuck rod from the center section of an old Stanley #46. I have been working on it since July. Started with 3 in 1 oil and graduated to Liquid Wrench. Lotsa taps with hammer. I wrapped the rod in a shoprag and clamped it in a metal vise. More tapping and working the section like a lever back and forth. Add more lube and repeat the process every two or three days. I was just about to the *apply heat to the rod* process when it finally worked loose. Everything looks good and I think I will be able to save the rod. One more little orphan on its way back to good health.
