#78 Depth Gauge Thread?

>Anybody know what the threads are on a #78 depth gauge thumb screw? Mine broke the other night. I was going to grab something at Lowes on the way home to make due until I can get a real one or a better one anyway.

I believe this was a purposeful decision to drive the point home that only Stanley quality parts from Mr. Good Plane were acceptable for replacement. DAMHIKT, but threads can be stripped, lives can be changed and dental bills incurred from the grashing of teeth, not to mention the calling of the the authorities due to the wailing of unutterable utterances.

>I found a reference somewhere that mentioned a thread of 10-28! Try and find that! I'll just order the replacement. There is just enough thread left to hold the fence. I was lucky, the piece left in the hole was very easy to get out. Thanks.

>Stanley used some strange threads on a lot of their planes. You might find a metric thread that'll work, though. Try a 5mm-1, or a 5mm-1.25. You might get lucky...

>I replaced the depth stop screw in my #78. I believe it was either a 1/4-20 or it might have been a #14-20, which is very close to a 1/4-20 but just a smidge smaller in diameter. (1/4" = 0.250", #14 = (14x13)+60 = 0.242" which just aint quite 0.250") Maybe it was a #14 and I just tapped it out to 1/4-20 since it was so close anyway and I can get 1/4" screws.
