In the meantime, yesterday (Sunday) being Father's Day in Australia I had a little time free in the workshop and decided I would make one. Unfortunately I lacked a suitable piece of brass. All I had was some thin brass strips. So I made it out of Jarrah with brass wear strips.
This looks such a simple project, but it is deceptively difficult. To obtain the necessary accuracy everything must be spot on. There can be no lateral play in the joint. With a little luck it turned out well (the pictures below are not particularly great ones - my apologies) Now I plan to made another now out of Tasmanian Blackwood.

Just two-part epoxy. I have not had trouble with this in the past. Nevertheless, on the next one I shall also use rivets - partly for decoration. Also I shall make it thicker than the 1/4" here. While this one feels solid, a thicker side (3/8") will provide more registration.
