Finding formaldehyde for waterproof hide glue
John Aniano, somewhere in Central NJ...
>Hello All,
I've spent a great deal of time trying to find a vendor/source for a small quantity of liquid formaldehyde. The fumes from formaldehyde make hide glue totally waterproof, and I wish to try this out. However, try to find some 37% (standard) solution of formaldehyde! Even the big names in chemicals, the ones I used to order from when in college, have large minimum $$ order amounts, unbelievable additional "hazardous materials" shipping costs and require the establishment of an account (something I'd rather not do, but if forced to...). Hey, isn't ultra pure water is a hazardous chemical - is there a "haz/mat" charge to ship ultra pure water?
All I need is maybe 100 ml of formaldehyde to try this waterproofing concept out. Any ideas out there to enable me to get a small quantity of this stuff? Hey, we all used formaldehyde in middle and high school biology class, right? What's the fuss?
It's frustrating!
John
