>Picked up a very old Spear & Jackson saw yesterday. Blade logo is stamped into the blade, not etched, but it has a different medallion than my other blade stamped Spears.
Anyone know of a resource that dates Spears saws by medallion type?
Very nice looking old saw. Resembles a Disston #7.
Yesterday I attended my first old tool show. I was lucky enough to buy 40 old saws from a guy who sold them to me right out of the back of his van before he took them indoors to sell to the regular members. We loaded them directly into the trunk of my car. Among the 40 saws were 9 Disston #12,s and two really nice #7,s. About half of the saws are Disstons. I'll be reconditioning them and selling them on eBay during the coming months.
>to that show in Sonoma, but as I walked out into the garage early yesterday morning to pick up a few duplicate tools for trading, I noticed a trail of water coming out of the water heater. Yesterday was all about water heaters, not great old tools. BTW, I got out-sniped on that 112 you had up on ebay. Rats!!!
Is your eBay user name linnenhall? If so it was a #12. That is a great looking saw. Thanks for bidding! Sorry you got sniped. Are you watching the E.C. Atkins No.64 I have up this week? It's ending in an hour and a half. Take a look, I filed starter teeth on the top edge of the blade for about 3 inches. It's the best look'n saw on eBay at the moment.
Sorry you didn't make it to the show. So many good tools and so little money. I bought a really nice slightly used saw vise with 14" jaws. Very unusual.
>Or maybe it was a 16. Anyhoo, I came in third, not even a close second. There's always next year for Sonoma! Are you going to Spreckels in the spring? Have you ever gone to San Diego? Now there's a show!
>I just joined the club so I could attend the meet in Sonoma. It was my first tool show. I haven't made plans for a second show yet. I've read about the San Diego show, one of the biggest. There was a seller there yesterday who drove all the way up from San Diego.
The Atkins No.64 that ended a couple hours ago was won by a guy with the same name. Checked his feedbacks and he's been buying mostly Atkins saws.
I'm trying to include the URL link with this message, not sure it will work.
>Dave I just sold A S7J a couple weeks ago with that medallion.
Marv! nice work on the saw looks great! I added you to my ebay so I can watch what you have. not that I will be buying as I am a bottomfeeder but it is nice to see good saws.
