Finish on a Krenov style plane?

>I haven't finished any of my planes. Indeed the maple ones look dirty, but they are tools not objects d' art. The bare wood does grip well. I don't think David's planes are finished or if they are it would be with a very thin coating of shellac. I have found a thin coating of shellac is good for keeping dirt from accumulating on wood surfaces.

Same here, no finish for the Japanese woodies.
