Around my mom's place in the Gasp� region of Quebec, you have to respect the speed limits, not because of the speed traps but because of all the moose that wander about on the roads.

We had a calf get scared while walking the road and separated from his mother.When a car came down the road he went the wrong way.He ended up in our yard with his mom across the road in the woods.He was scared to cross and she was too wary.We had to circle behind him and chase him back. >We have a lot in the area. LOTS of woods and wet around here. We've had a lot of 'signs' of them, mostly the day after, but to have them come out mid afternoon when I had been mowing down near the pond not 10 mins before was odd.

The best part was seeing the look on SWMBO's face, at first I took it as panic. She couldn't believe it was happening.

I enjoying seeing Moose, and all forms of wildlife as the next guy, but in this case I see it as a bad sign.

>a high moose population. When I lived in the country, some years we saw foxes and bears on our property at least a dozen times a year. In bad years the foxes hunted domestic cats and small dogs. Other years there were none to be seen. It was definitely cyclical, due to fluctuations in the population, and possible other factors like available food sources. I know in my mom's region this year the moose population is very high.

Their here because they can be. We have well used game trails everywhere.

I dunno why, but when shown a "coin" I tend to think of the "flip side" first these days. Could be a case of 1) with age comes Wisdom, or 2) I don't trust a da, da, da, dang thing at face value anymore, which, brings us back to #1.

Apples trees are a deer nirvana, especially when the fruit is abundant, which it is right about now outside back here.

I seem to recall a moose or two wandering in to the suburbs up here and wading around backyard pools and even crashing through glass patio doors.
