The night before the dealer show there is room trading which is fun both because I routinely get some good stuff and because for the entire 2 days I get to see stuff I wouldn't normally see.

The auction can be tedious but if you pay attention you can both fondle really cool stuff and occasionally get a great deal. I got a lot of stuff in the auction over the years just by figuring out what I am willing to pay and taking a chance.

I haven't been to this particular auction before, but the ones I've been to were worthwhile even though I didn't buy anything.

First of all, the auctions I've been to had a bunch of people selling hand tools out front, which is a good place to go bargain hunting, although I don't know if this auction will have a similar setup.

Secondly, think of it as a chance to go to a hand tool museum. You'll be able to look and handle a lot of vintage tools. Much more satisfying than looking at pictures on eBay.

Now THAT sounds exactly like what I was looking for! The advertisement states that the auction is being held on Oct 26th and 27th. When would the dealer show be? I'm trying to determine the best day to be there. My initial plan was to be there early on Saturday the 27th.

But I have a funny feeling that you're a bit more discriminating when it comes to the tools you'd be bidding on!

Seriously, I'm terrible at auctions. So I usually avoid them. Maybe it's my nature. But the times I've bid, I usually went over my limit and REALLY regretted it. I prefer to walk up to a table and just BUY something for the advertised price (with maybe just a bit of haggling). :>)

You know, that is a real good point. I could think of it as a "education" trip. Like to a museum. :>) To be honest I wouldn't mind seeing some of those rare planes up close.

I would think Rob cout put together a show and let it tour across Canada and then back across the continant thru the USA and back home it would make allot of people happy and might even be used as a way of driving there sales to the next level.

>Friday is the dealer show and the showing of the auction items, Saturday is the auction. A lot of people get there thursday afternoon for room trading and a lot leave Saturday morning if they don't plan to bid in the auction. My usual plan was ( I'm not going this year - small kid needs me) go either thursday of really early Friday stay until the items I want to bid on saturday come up, or when I get bored.

>Definetly worth the trip! Dealer show starts at 1:00 PM Friday (IIRC), with hand woodworking tools of all types! I've been going to the Spring and Fall shows for a few years and find the Fall show a bit bigger.
