Excellent News....

Rob Lee

>Hi -

I've been told that Rosewood Studio will be re-opening it's doors soon (about a month), under new ownership. When Rosewood closed earlier this year it was a loss felt by the entire community.

The assets and name of the company have been acquired by some of the previous staff, and the new company will continue to offer quality instruction as before, in the same facilities.

While this is a new operation Ron Barter tells me that they will honor course deposits lost when Rosewood closed its doors earlier this year. Best bet is to call them/email for specific details ( [email protected] ). He expects to have the website up and running mid/end August, but assures me that the email is working!

Cheers

>Geez, I thought you were announcing that the Veritas planes were all 50% off! :-D

Seriously now, I followed the "saga" from a distance, and knew that RS would rise from its ashes, but details are few and far between... Personally, I think Ron should post a statement out telling the population out there what the plans are...

>Say Rob, with your connections, do you know of any woodworking school/courses a little, um, West of East, say, like B.C.?

I've "taught" myself how to use a plane, how to sharpen it, and kinda sorta how to true up a board. Key words being "self taught"... but what I'd really like to do is take a weekend course in planes:--sharpening, fettling, and most importantly working with them. Once a year I treat myself to a new plane, last month (this year's toy) it was the LV BU smoother. I've "made friends" with it, but I know there's a lot more I can get out of it if someone would show me how.....

West of East

Brad in Ottawa

>That's a big area! How about Inside Passage, see the link below. Located in your own backyard. I don't know much about them other than the founder Robert Van Norman used to teach at Rosewood Studio before opening up there. I have seen them advertise in FineWoodworking too.

IIRC, Robert studied with Krenov and a lot of the work and classes are in that vein. Check out the link for some beautiful work, including Krenov styled cabinets.
