Last time I passed through the area I was not prepared and only saw tourist shops and a restaurant with a parking lot full of tourist buses. I hope to do better this time..

>Visit the Holtsfus (?) harness shop, great belt powered shop. Look for where the carriages are parked for good food. Try the biscuits and gravy and the sho fly pie.

>Travel south out of Lancaster on Rt. 272 through Wakefield to "joy's Antiques". Right on Rt. 272, with the actual address "400 Nottingham Road, Quarryville, PA 17566". Telephone number is (717) 529-2693. The drive is about 30 minutes south of Lancaster and is worth the trip.
If you got a lot of time on your hands, travel west on Route 30 over to Gettysburg, PA for Civil War history at its best.

Heritage Center: center of Lancaster, King and queen streets. A modest museum with furniture and nice silver. Lancaster was the largest inland city in America in 1776. The furniture is similar to Chester County, but tends to be a bit quirky and some find it charming. Free
Philip Bradley Antiques: Downingtown about 30 miles east in Chester County.
Ball and Ball Brass reproduction hardware and showplace for Chester County reproductions. a few miles east of Downingtown.
Three specialty lumber yards ,wide and figured boards: Sandy Pond Hardwoods Quarryville, Groff and Groff Quarryville, Hearne Hardwoods Oxford.
