Here is a moon phase indicator I am building based on globes and planet models of the nineteenth century.

The moon is paper mache reinforced with cheescloth and the cover which will be painted black is coopered pine veneer bent and held in kerfs on each pole. Paper is glued on the back to reinforce.

One of the most unusual things I have ever made.
