Got a nice old vise today
John in New Mexico
>Visiting a friend over here in AZ who has tons of machining equipment, and I see a kinda weird looking woodworking vise on the floor. He got it from someone who was clearing out a shop and was going to weld it to a metal bench. As soon as I started looking it over, he insisted I take it home lest it be butchered (I once gave him an old South Bend drill press, so we're kinda even).
Anyway, its a Prentiss #813 with a strange mechanism. Instead of the two rods with a screw in between, its got a solid bottom with large serations on it. The front of the vise has a 1 1/4 turn screw for tightening once its rough adjusted by engaging the serations. Wish I had a camera here, but its at home.
Also got a bandsaw blade welder that needs a couple parts, but that belongs on the other side!
