Macbeath hardwoods in San Francisco

Hida tool in Berkeley

Japanwoodworker in Alameda

Jordan international in Belmont-maybe 20 minutes from Stanford used to have nice wood haven't been there in years.

Check woodfinder for some other wood places.

The Deyoung museum in SF has some interesting furniture in their collection.

Up in the sonoma wine country Maybe a little far is a nice furniture Gallery called Dovetail Collection in Healdsburg-I'm biased they carry my work and are closed tuesday and wednesday.

Handloggers in Richmond can be good Again haven't been there in years.

Pals/earthsource in Oakland is nice and is set up for browsing and open on saturday, there is also a Macbeath in Berkeley the SF yard is bigger but berkeley has a lot also.

Also in Berkeley is the Thorsen house a nicely restored Greene and Greene home that doubles as a frat house. I would google it and see if they do tours years ago a six pack would get you a tour on weeknds but that was before they restored it.

Not furniture related but the asian art museum in SF is pretty nice.

>You might add to that list Gallery M in Half Moon Bay, a half-hour's drive from Stanford. Lots of the graduates of the College of the Redwoods display there. Used to be that there was a strong Krenov infuence in the items displayed, but that has moderated lately.

OTOH I picked up a couple of random Stanley 750 chisels and an interesting Goodall transitional plane over in Coulterville, near Yosemite in gold country, and I saw the world's largest tree (and some slightly smaller relations) in the Mariposa Grove and in Kings Canyon. WOW!
