Thinking of buying a bench rabbet plane....

Anyone have one, use one, like it, dislike it? I found I could use it one handed a bit easier than my 140 (why Stanely put the removable side on the right has always been beyond my understanding) by grasping the frog - not as un-comfortable as one might think. Thought it might be good for big raised panels too, though I'd have to try it out to be sure.

>Thats about half my gripe with my old 140, its just too small to hold comfortably for what I tend to do with it, so I'm not entirely sold on a left handed version. I've used a 10 1/2 for a single purpose, just wondering if I've over looked some pros or cons that more diverse users would know about. Not entirely comitted to a LN either, if I came accross a Stanley for less (yeah right, that always happens to me... you wanna talk about old tool hell, come out to the desert, its not just water we're lacking).

>I probably have 25 of them (seriously, I couldn't stop). They are used in timber framing for doing large tenons. They also work well for raised panels. The blades are no problem to get in and out. Make sure it hasn't been broken and welded. The cheeks are the weak spot in these planes.

>A 10 and a 10-1/2. I find myself reaching for the LN 60-1/2R (Their version of the Sargent 507) more that the 10's. Both make good planes to raise panels with.
