>I paid $85.00 for one in good+ condition at an outdoor antique fair. This was the older model without the fence adjustment screw and with the floral motif on the body. Also, this vintage did not have the cam. The only thing missing was the slitter blade. I recently bought a much later vintage complete and in excellent+ condition with all standard parts included. This was saw very, very little use--actually only the 1/4" iron showed any use. For this one I paid $165.00 which I considered top dollar.

I do use these once in a great while.

I have bought nice 45s mostly complete for as low as $50 and have seen ones in worse condition go for over $250 at local auctions. I have broken them up for parts [the way to sell them] and got over $500 for them. Have sold a single special cutter for $45 and a box of regular cutters for $50.

Lots go into somthing like this and you have not even seen the plane!Your friends idea of "Good" condition might not be the same as yours or mine.I once had a guy try to sell me a 45 that was broken in half, rusted up solid brown and thought pretty sure it was in Excellent condition. Not always true but a good rule of thumb nice condition planes do not come out of basements clean outs.

My thinking on somthing like this is that it isn't your job to tell the person whose property it is what they should sell it for or what they want for thier stuff.If he doesn't know what he wants how can you? He's selling it...let him decide what he wants then you decide if you want to pay it....Failing this offer him $1 and I imagine he will come up with a price that suits him OK......Todd
