Sunday garage sale gloat

>Went back to a sale from yesterday, armed with some eBay research, to offer on a miter box I found there. He wanted $45, but when I pointed out that the average was more like $15 and offered that, the lady who was there said "sure."

Turns out to be a Goodell-Pratt No. 3 box, another Langdon type box, with a long, straight, fairly clean Disston saw. It needs cleanup, but seems more or less complete; it's even got what looks like a crown molding stop and a length stop.

Did a little research - I never knew the connections between Millers-Falls and Goodell-Pratt before. Interesting.

This makes my third Langdon-type miter box and my fifth big miter box; when does "hey, that's neat and cheap" turn into hoarding? Or does asking the question answer it?

Yeah right Ernie, if you believe that I'm got some nice land here in Florida I'll sell ya! ;~)

Never bet against a Hoarder. Since I said I'd never buy another stone I bet I've bought at least 5 more, not to mention a few more hand crank grinders, chisels, saws,.........

Problem is solved

>I paid with a check, which has my home phone on it, and this morning, the seller called, very upset because his mother shouldn't have sold it to me for such a low price and it was worth far more and on and on. It was just before I headed off for the courthouse for my day of testimony (done! yay!), so I didn't talk to him until later today, but I returned it to him and got my check back.

So this afternoon, he says that he'll sell it to me if I've got $15 in cash, which I didn't. No, no. I want out of that particular purchase because the vibes were too weird. He says he's selling again this coming weekend and that he'll sell it to me then for $15 if I bring cash; I'll have to decide whether it's worth it to have a Goodell Pratt box, since I've got kind of a soft spot for that particular maker for no particular reason.

But, at the moment, I'm back to two Langdon type and two Stanley two-rod type boxes, and a Stanley 150 that I haven't gotten around to donating to my local Habitat store.
