I once seen a broken at the mouth blockplane sell on 'bay for around $80 IIRC. I will admit that whomever ground the cheeks down did an extremely nice job of it, and it really did have a factory manufactured look to it, but dang, the seller even said it had been broken, and still somebody wanted it to the tune of $80. Go figure. I almost wnt went out into my shop and broke the toes off all my blockplanes!
I wish now I had e-mailed that buyer and asked why he paid that much for that blockplane, but of coarse I never did.
