>Yeah, some sellers are quite "optimistic" about their asking prices, and I find this to hold mostly true with the ones that are 1)not familiar with old tools and 2)not familiar with old tool buyers I think I can speak for the majority of us rust hunters when I say that we we tend to be on the cheap side. I know I am, unless of coarse the tool is absolutely dead mint, than yes, that is a horse of a different color.
So far, rust prices haven't skyrocketed down here, tho I was some kind of put out when a few weeks ago when one of the "high" sellers charged me $3 each for a 1/2" Everlast chisel in so so shape, and a long 1/8" wide no-name-that-I-could-find chisel.
I can't tell you how many sellers I've inadvertanly laughed at when they told me their asking prices for stuff. I don't mean too, it's quite involuntary. I've seen selers asking $30 and up for a common ol' nothing special, half wore out drawknife.
some sellers will say, "If I can't sell it here I'll put it on e-bay", and my response is "I'll look for it there then".
A big factor is that I am to the point where I really don't need anymore tools other than the specialily ones. I am over run with common stuff, and now I tend to be much more picky about what I don't buy.
Another factor I have going for me is that I now realize that whatever the seller is seling it is not the last one on Earth, and sooner or later I'll find another one, so hey, meet my price or keep it, it makes no difference to me.
Hang in there Stephen, when the seller finally wise up their prices will come down I'm sure.
