>I know . . . 78s are from Mars and 289s are from Venus and not romanticaly compatable but . . . I've seen 78s cast with " block " letters and others with a stylized English letters. Same with the 289s I've seen. Probably other types as well. Does this denote any period of manufacture ? Probably a Rookie question and many are rolling their eyes !

>The 289 you picked up is a pretty early one I'm sure, from the lettering. I'm pretty sure the lettering follows the #78 types; did a bit of research on the 78 types at one time but has been a while. I like the font on your 289, and think most collectors probably do. But it is not really rare.
