>Replacement parts can usually be purchased from St. James Tool Company. The 78 fence is ok I guess, but the 289 has a much stronger fence when you look at the curved gussets that come away from the center post.

Cross grain work - it has a skewed blade.

As does the much cheaper wooden moving fillister :-)

It's a tough call. Most ones I see on DaBay if complete end up going for a fair ammount.

...Can't quite picture the damage but doesn't sound like it will affect the planes use. Yes, I would have to say they are a very uncommon plane esp. to find on the cheap. Think I have found 3 cheap ones in about 10 years of pretty extensive rust hunting...but then I do live in an old tool hell and things might be better where you are at ......Todd
