>I got a pair for my 140 by buying an incomplete 140 (it had the screws but no side plate, curious), and then sold the cap to one of the unsuccessful bidders for more than my bid amount. I actually made money on the deal. Don't ask me why, but the unsuccessful bidder wrote me an email after the auction was over and made me an offer on the cap. He could have just bid more in the first place. Anyhoo, if you are patient, you might come across a similar situation.

I guess modern products use other types of fasteners. Anyway, it you are lucky enough to FIND a thumbscrew, you will be double lucky if it costs less than THREE TO FIVE BUCKS! Seems to me that there is a manufacturing opportunity there.

I've ordered from the 'Thumb Screw' and 'threaded insert' sections of McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com). And they got a lot of selection, it seems to me. There's a zillion different threads (metric and imperial); different head types, knurled, shouldered, unshouldered, high head, narrow head, etc; 3 different tip types; different materials--brass, oxide, plain steel, 18-8 stainless; whole bunch of different lengths.

Yeah, they want $4-$5 a pop, for say 1/4"-20, but I like to think of it, that I'm not buying a screw, I'm buying a solution to my problem. That's the way us catalog weenies look at it (<:).

Really goes to shows that breaking planes like this up for parts is the way to go when you sell them .....Todd
