>Saw it at a garage sale, owner wanted $200, but got no offers. I didn't have that kind of money , and I didn't know much about it, but I managed to get the owner' phone # for future possibilities.

Cast iron and steel frame, looks to be in good shape, can't find any cracks or welds or brazing. There is some "home made" welding on the bottom where some mounting brackets/feet are crudely tacked on. The saw is a long sucker, 24" my guess, with the Stanley SW trademark and Disston's as well, very minor surface rust, no pitting, no missing teeth, handle a bit battered but O.K.

Question is, what do I look for? what kind of parts are usually missing, etc.? What is the thing worth? I'm not looking to collect, but would like to use it

>Stanley miter boxes and sweetheart era miter saws are both fairly common items on ebay.Unless there's something special that I don't know about that particular set I'd say it's high priced.

So I put him on hold, and figured it would be worth checking out. Problem was I haven't seen any on e-bay, so I didn't know what they were worth or what they usually have missing/broken.

Don't really want to contact the seller and tell him it's value, so I guess I'll let him figure it out for himself and just toss away his phone #.

I got myself a fine example of the Millers-Falls Co. 74C box with saw for the Toddly sum of $2 at the flea market. Usually I toss the cast iron scrap like brake rotors , and this seems to weigh the same. So I figure the guy was glad to get rid of some real heavy iron and get paid for the trouble.
