>To review: Step 1 is to chamfer the blade guard holes. Step 2 is to prepare the end of the pins. Step 3 is to cut off the pins. Step 4 is to pein the pins into place. Here are the pictures for step 3. First shot is pins inserted into plane with tapered end sticking out.

Sawing

>Here is a fuzzy shot of sawing. I needed a few more hands. The end of the pin is clamped in the vise. I am holding the plane, the cover, and a coping saw. Paul recommends a jeweler's saw, but I wanted to use common tools. Yes I have a jeweler's saw--doesn't everyone? Coping saw works well. Guard plate keeps plane body untouched.

>Both pins have been cut. The remains are on the cover guard. There is 1/16" of brass rod sticking out from each side. One side is pinched, but the freshly cut side is not. It should be peined first.
