>Hi everyone. I don't post too often over here but I usually read the board all the time. Since there has been a lot of discussion about Paul Hamler's planes lately I figured you might be interested in seing my completed plane.

I am just about done with my Miller's Patent Plow Plane. I think this is one of those tasks that you could just about spend forever on if you wanted to. It all depends on how much of a perfectionist you are.

Most of my plane is clean and polished, but there are still a few hard to see (and access) areas that are a little rough. I figure this is a minor detail. I haven't peined the brass rods yet so if there is a portion that starts to bother me then I can take it apart and work on it some more. I would really like to see one of Paul's finished planes some time so I have a standard to compare to. Since I haven't really done much metal work or file work before I feel pretty proud of the job I've done so far.

Sorry about the lighting. I really wish that my shop had a window. Unfortunately it is a dark one car garage with bad lighting. Flash is hard with shiny metal objects and I couldn't get the pictures to turn out exactly as I wanted. I tried to get away with taking some pictures inside with a halogen light but I agree with you that they are a little dark and shadowy. Thanks for the compliment though.

>Did you apply a patina? Also did you use any kind of protective finish on it?

As said the brass pin get peined to hold the blade cam and holder together. I'm at that stage now, but I'm a bit nervous the peinning process.

I didn't apply any patina to it. I simply didn't polish some of the low spots so that some portions would still have a dark background. It looks similar to patina without all of the hassle. I like the way it looks now, but if I change my mind I can always add patina later.

As for protective finish I only applied a coat or two of paste wax and then buffed off. We will see how that holds up.
