>Nothing cuts better than a skew plane. Here is a steel clad skew rabbet (1 1/4") that I picked up a few years ago. Found it under some stuff and finished grinding the blade today. When the blade returns from heat treating, I will make a new wedge to fit and then take it of for a test drive.

Not to distract from the nice iron you made, but that's a neat plane, I never saw one like it before (not that it's a surprise up here in the *true* old tool hell).
What are the widths of the iron and tang? How much slop do you leave between the tang and the wedge mortise? Do you bother beveling the sides of the tang?

>Poe-ta-toe, pa-ta-ta. Looks like an old ironclad warship with the side and bottom plates held on with screws. There must be twenty of them in the bottom alone. I guess I would call it an infill if someone started with iron and filled it in with wood. In this case, someone started with wood and armor plated almost every side in sight. The result is functional, but brutish.

>Tang is about 1/2" and the blade is 1-1/4 on the cut. I guess it is about 1-1/2" wide. I did bevel the tang a bit so that it would make for a tight fit. Not too tight because I need lateral movement for adjustment.
