NEW Shop Shot!

>Our newest Shop Shot is up!

When Derek Cohen's wife requested a pair of end tables for their living room, the choice was simple. Since both like furniture with simple and clean lines, a pair of demilune tables in Jarrah and Tasmanian Oak fit the bill. Derek's love of using hand tools seemed to be satisfied during the construction of these beautiful tables.

Derek provides us with a detailed look at the many construction aspects involved in the making of this project. Stop by and take a look at the wonderful work he's done.

Cheers,

So Derek..few questions

>Tell me what kind of planer will mill your strips from 5mm to 2mm? I assume that this is a power planer. Why did you compression bend instead of steam? Great table by the way.

Hi McKay

I have a Delta 12 1/2" thicknesser (as it is termed here). By using a sled and taking very fine shavings it is possible to reduce the thickness by this much.

Why compression bend? Because I have never been able to steam bend Jarrah. I tried a few times for Shaker boxes (but the thickness may have been to great for the curvature).
