Are you taking notes? What we want is for you to get Grammercy tools to make us a 2" 2 or 3 thread screw box and tap set. The trick is you want to size the thing so that the minor diameter is the size of a standard forstener bit for whatever normal people have to bore holes. It would be beneficial if the major diameter were 1/8" under another standard size (maybe guys will use a hole saw) for the hole in the vise face/jaw.
And what do we want to pay for this thing? I say $200 wouldn't be too much.
You make that happen and I'll draw up some plans for a couple basic traditional workbenches, I'll give them to you for free and you can sell them as pdf's for $3. Package this up in your new "traditional workbench" department along with the grammercy holdfasts. (see if you can talk them into a toothed planing stop (the "sole" blighter- get it? Put an evil pentogram on it to freak guys like me out).
Failing that, how about asking grammercy to make the screws for us? I have 2 new benches to build and I don't want to put the 1-1/2" 6 thread screws on them.
For the rest of you, Joel's going to tell me there's no market for this. So if this is something that interests you- (hey every woodworking club could buy a set for their members' use) be sure to say so.
I think wooden screws have some big advantages over their metal counterparts (off axis clamping specifically) and more woodworkers should have the opportunity to try these vises out.

P.S. Woodworking groups should have stuff like 12, 6' pipe clamps. This is something you need once or twice. Its crazy for all of us to own these sorts of things.
