Two appear to be cast, which always amazes me, that a casting could handle the stresses; one is more like your neighbor's (or yours on the "loan to own" program).

>Back in my youth I had an Elan. Nice little snowmobile. Was easy to dig out when you got it stuck or buried. Like a total banana head I tried to playEevil Knevil on it by jumping the raod via the snow bank left by the town plow. I landed in the middle of the road and split the chassis and broke several of the bogie springs. It was a wonder that I didn't crush the vertabrae in my back as well.

Yup, I was prone to stupid moments in my youth, like the time in 1979 in my '65 ford Falcon station wagon I tried to pass my buddy on the right side of the road while going around a curve and side swiped a telephone pole. Blew out the windshield and all the glass on the right side of the car, as well as crushing in the right side. I still miss that car. Bought for $100, it was solid, the little straight 6 ran like a top. Had 'er up to 110 mph when I pasted my buddy on the flats about 3 minutes before I smashed it up. He got ahead of me when I took that 90 degree turn on two wheels and ended up in the ditch. Coarse I still would of had him, but I hit the shifter up into Neautral as it was coming back down on 4 wheels, so when I gunned it I went nowhere and he got ahead of me.

Yeah those where the days, now I'm just a middle aged ol' fuddy-duddy and don't dare the lightning anymore.

As for Wood content, the phone pole was wood. ;~)

Here's my (fathers) first sled. It was a 1963 Moto-Ski. There was only 9 built, 6 stayed in Canada, 3 came to NH.

My father bought it in the mid to late 60's, and we beat on it for 3 winters and he sold to to a Moto-Ski dealer he knew for what he paid for it and a great deal on a M-S Zephyr with twice the hp.

The sled is now in the NH Snowmobile Museum. The engine is in a sled in a museum in Montrel Canada. It being the only surviving orginial engine.
