I have to say I'm impressed by those amounts of snow over there. It seems you got all this winter, we here in Europe, I mean, here in small Luxembourg with not even half a million residents, we had no snow at all, not a single day. So now we're looking forward having a splendid springtime...

Just like those calls from relatives I always "love" to hear. Gee...it's in the 70s here. It has snowed over 2 feet here in the last coupla days (in Minnesota). Much snow blowing from the driveway and pulling huge drifts off the roof of the house.

The funniest thing that I've heard though is; the talk at the university on global warming was cancelled due to the weather. hehe...

Snow was this annoying stuff that fell from the sky and then used to sit on the ground and melt over the next two days while making everything soft and slushy underfoot.

I always hated those calls, too; but more, I grew to hate the cold and snow, so we moved here from Boston. I don't recommend this for anyone else, since we're more than likely to run out of water before the population doubles in the next 15 years. Oh, but then there are the ice caps that will melt, so maybe we'll have ocean front property... Makes my head hurt.

The real problem is that it followed the same plan of snow followed by rain followed by arctic conditions.I now have to figure a way to chop down thru 2 layers of 2-3" thick ice separated by snow to clear this stuff.The snowblower refuses to even start after the last disasterous run at only the first layer of it.

MB-Who`s very much looking forward to spring.It comes about memorial day,right after mud season.

Not sure how 15 was calculated when Andrew was a lad, but for my son's soccer comp U/8 means the kids were all born in 1999, so they all turn 8 sometime this year.

Ian, who is also sweltering in Sydney's humidity (which is currently 79% and likely to be nudging 100% by morning)

Our main roof gables have a steep pitch but our porch roof is like yours --- I'm about to spend the rest of the morning with a "roof rake". Mind you, this is not the kind of hand tool I had hope to be using this morning!!!

>About 20 miles northeast of Duluth, MN, 6 miles inland from Lake Superior. We're on a ridge that was the shoreline of Lake Superior millenia ago when it was several hundred feet deeper. That change in elevation creates extra "lake effect snow" when we get ENE wind as we did in this storm.

If it makes you feel any better, we had only a couple inches of standing snow depth prior to this and were looking a brown spots too. We were all bemoaning the lack of snow. . .be careful what you wish for.

Much as we like to showcase our pain after a snowstorm, in my book you've got it worse. We used to live in Missouri where summertime temps were as you describe and the humidity as well. Missouri had some nice features (and *great* hardwood), but we're much happier here in Minnesota, at least as far as the weather goes. Now if I could only work my way back to the Rockies. . .

The last hour or so has been a bit exciting with a severe thunderstorm storm passing over Sydney.

But we're relatively lucky, most of the time the really really bad storms, the sort that spawn tornados, happen off the coast so we get to admire water spouts rather than watch twisters trash a suburb.
