European tool steels *LINK*

>A couple of recent auctions reminded me how little I read on these boards about European tool steels. Sheffield stuff certainly has a reputation and I have a sense of what to look for in a north american flea market, but what about Goldenberg or Peugeot? Goldenberg (with at least one factory in the Germany/France/Austria region) apparently made tools for nearly a hundred years before being swallowed by Stanley (post WW2?). Googling "peugeot 'anything'" seems to turn up mostly auto info.
Surely tool steel qualities vary but likewise cranking out tools for a hundred years in a competitive industrial region must count for something. Got any sites that list good names? Know anything about Peugeot chisels?
