But mostly my point wasn't distrust, it was volume. People get upset if I do something as innocuous as TYPE LIKE THIS. When someone who buys ink by the truckload comes in and inserts himself in a discussion it becomes very one sided. Sometimes I want to go to a seminar and sometimes I just want to chat by exchanging views.
I occasionally like to talk politics, I don't need so and so Presidential historian to come in and lay it all out for me, kinda sucks the life out of a conversation whose real point may not be dates and the consensus of historical scholarship. A seminar is one person talking and 35 listening, I thought that was what the occasional chats with the untouchables was for.
As far as soft dollar deals are concerned. If a person is smart enough to know anything I can't figure out for myself, they are smart enough to rig the test, and probably are. There have been all these golf ads that show how "Driver A" outdrives all these other drivers and is more accurate to boot. You can set that test up on the basis of the frequency of vibration of various shafts, then tune in the swing speed to optimize the performance for the frequency of your shaft. You don't have to cheat. Sells or sold a lot of 500 dollar golfclubs made up of about 75 bucks of parts bought at retail. Then you get the cynics who believe it's all lies, sorta like folks who think the lottery corporation has to cheat to make money. Sharpening and therefore performance testing is a wide open field for this sort of thing. I heard that Gillette used to game with sharpness not sure why (if true) tool tests should be any different.
