| Paul Hamler, well-known among tool collectors and aficionados for his remarkably accurate miniature and full-size reproductions of early woodworking tools, has created a limited edition of the Miller Patent Plough Plane, one of the most ornate and sought-after hand-tools of the Victorian era. Original Miller Patent planes in good condition typically sell in the $25,000 range. Paul has sold over 375 completed planes, the last 125 at a price of $800 each. Now he is offering 80 of the remaining planes as kits, for $400 each, including shipping to the lower 48 US states. ![]() Hamler investment-casts these planes in silicon-bronze. The kit comes fully assembled, with all drilling and machining completed by Hamler Tool. To complete the plane, you will need to disassemble the plane, smooth the surface areas of the castings (including the filigree work on the main body, skate and fence), apply a patina, if desired, and reassemble the plane. Then simply pein two pins and press-fit the knob into the fence in any vise with afour-inch opening. ![]() These planes are fully functional and include one 1/4" iron of 01-tool-steel that can be hardened to your desired Rockwell hardness. The blade is non-tapered and has a V-groove that aligns with the skate. Other widths will be available from Jim REed, NOT from Paul Hamler as previously mentioned.
