I think the best thing with somthing like this is to buy it if you want to and then try not to think about it too much. If nickled good probably no way you could tell it was bogus and if that is a case it has then become a real no. 201 eh?.....Todd

>A Stanley blade doesn't 100% guarantee it's a Stanley plane - That's a nice little bronze but it's likely that someone else cast it using a Stanley 100 to make the mould. A few favorites below L to R: "Good Grip-California, Preston & Marples-England, Aluminum w/Brass Sole-Scotland, Stanley-Canada, Strongboy-Germany, and "Goodwood"-Australia. Sometimes I think that everyone who ever cast a tool made a copy.

The Miller's Falls on the left is thrown in for scale. Center plane is marked MMP and 11 CAN on the body. Right plane is unmarked, any idea of maker?

Rob...who thinks that a 101 collection is a -really- nifty idea.

>I have quite a few of unknown origin. Union used that shape blade but with a different style cap. Skil-ko did, too on a cheapo stamped steel model. I only know what my unmarked Skil-ko, Hobbies and Pow-r-kraft miniatures are because I got them in the boxes.

Yup Ernie, been there, done that, am over that. I don't chase nothing anymore, not even a #1. Now, if I happen to stumble across something that's another matter, but as far as actively hunting a particular item, no more. Sure makes for a Peaceful feeling inside too.

I guess what I was trying to get across is that I'm no longer so inclined to get a duplicate tool simply because it was made by a different maker--exscept perhaps for #3's, tho even at that just because I don't have a Union #3 dosen't mean that I'm going to go hunting for one either, but if I happen to stumble into one, than that's a horse of a different color.

What I'm just going to do is just focus on acquiring more of the specility tools that I don't have.

I think what's happened is that I've beat my self to death looking for a $5 #1 and it's taken some of the fun out of it, so now I'm just gonna chill out a little on "hunting".

They cost so little in the wild and do bring quite a bit on the bay. I have started to keep the boxed ones that are unused unless I all ready have one like it.
