>About a week ago a plow plane by EW Carpenter "sold" on E-Bay for $8100.

Now both the item and the seller have vanished from E-Bay site. Anyone know anything about this story?

Here's wussup wif dat plane, s toted Carpenter's plough plane with his patented improved arms. It was pulled by ebay as it doesn't exist. For the seller, that is. The thief selling it noticed that it brought considerable money when originally sold back in October. Being a clever 'entrepreneur', he saved off the images, and the description, bided his time for the normal three months listing expiration, and then sprung his trap - he listed it all over again. Thing is, he was selling something he didn't own. Some clever ebayers noticed this, placed some fictitious bids, and alerted ebay. ebay didn't pull the auction until after the thing 'sold' for $8100.00. [Deletion]

I copied this post from a search I did for "plow plane".---Jack

>Last year a rather expensive no. 1 had it's photos and description harvested by not one but two "sellers" after it went very high...I emailed the one seller and asked about it and he admited to re using the photos but said he had a plane just like it but in better shape and since he didn't have a camara he didn't see anything wrong in it. I told him I was going to bid and since i would be in his city could i stop by to pick it up and pay cash?....never heard back from him of course.....Todd
