Shop fun with a #62 LA jack

Jim Reed @ Tallahassee

>So I found a body on ebay. It was in pretty sad shape, but the price was right. I am building it back a piece at a time. Today I made the front adjustable sole. Fits snug like a little bug.

>Hi Jim...nice job (as always) on the adjustable sole. What's the plan for the mouth repair? Weld, silver solder, rivet? Mill out a wedge and replace the whole works, cheeks included? Rob...eagerly awaiting chapter 2.

Let me know if you want pictures of parts, etc. I can take all that you want. Just yell out.

The mouth

jim reed @ tallahassee

>Certainly a weak spot on any LA plane. I thought about (gasp) doing nothing. This plane could certainly use a thicker blade and maybe with a thicker blade the mouth is OK. Visually it is a mess, but functionally that part of the mouth is irrelevant. I guess I could file it into a more pleasing appearance.

>Interesting-

and wonderful to watch in progress. Typically ignored tools brought back to life. Much more touching than a new tool. The last Derek thread (shoulder plane) was awesome.
