"planing" end grain of hard maple
George in Lowell, Mich.
>Well it "warmed up" alittle. It is a sweltering 20* outside!!!
I went to my work shop, built a fire in the woodstove, and proceeded to try all the suggestions that were offered for my problem. unfortunately none seemed to solve the problem. The best working plane was my #5 with the 1/4" thick A2 blade. Even that skipped and chattered across the wood.
I then decided to try my Stanley #80 scrapper as a last resort, and BINGO. It is now as smooth as a babies butt!!! I held it on about a 30* skew and went to town on the wood.
Mission accomplished!
