>There's also some Orbison, TJ and the Shondells and Fleetwood Mac in the 5 disc changer on top of the Kenwood receiver pumping through a pair of Bose speakers. The receiver, cd player, speakers and tape deck all came from the dump and they work great. I could blow the walls off my shop. :)

sorry, just don't like the gap between marketing and reality achieved by Bose. Superficially impressive sometimes, but not good fidelity and very tiring to listen to. Stops people from looking at the many small-maker products out there that deserve more attention. Good job recycling all that gear for shop tunes, though.

On a more WC theme, I made some little full-range speakers for my naval officer brother recently, to take to the Gulf for a few months. Holm Oak (Quercus ilex, called evergreen oak in US I think) from the old home firewood pile, shopmade terminals and protective grille, and drivers that I did some internal design for years back when doing audio more seriously. Details on request...

The linked photo (large image!) isn't very close but you can see there is some funky figure on the quarter faces of the oak. Shame it is awkward to work and apparently unstable, as it is spectacular looking stuff, and very dense. I keep meaning to post decent pics of these, as they came out well and I was pretty pleased with myself when they were finished :-)

I've had it in my shop for over a year and no problems so far, but I do 95% hand work so there's not much of a dust problem. About the only power tool I use in the building is my Dremel.

I hope it's enough for the picture frame I want to make. If I wanted some T&G Bead board paneling, I'd find an old house around here and scavenge the boards from it.
