Bow saw blade

I asked this on the messages side and it was suggested to ask here.
What's the difference between a Bow saw Blade (for dovetails and such) vs a regular blade (hand saw, etc.)
Also, could I just put one into a hacksaw frame?
And, who sells the blades?

I might be showing my ignorance here abit, but that's easy for me too do, and I do it frequently, so it's of no matter to me.
I'd say that the difference between the Bowsaw Blade and a regular saw is that the bowsaw blade is made to be held in Tension in a frame, and a reqular blade, the "tension" is created by using a spine on the back of the blade. This spine does limit the depth of cut, which is usually just a few inches.
With the bowsaw, the depth of cut is unlimited as you can tip the blade with in the frame for the wood that you are cutting to clear the frame. The more important issue here is TPI and sharpness IMO, as the spined backed saws are plenty stiff enough to cut dovetails with. HTH
