LV tapered tennon cutter..

>Does anyone have expirience with the LV tapered tennon cutter? I am having difficulty getting it to work. It's cuts a tapered tennon on a small stick but I can not get it to cut a tapered tennon on a larger stick. It seems that the stick gets stuck in the area of the cutter prior to the blade. The blade does not extend to the begining of the cutter.

I have been fiddling with cutting the work down to different sizes but have not found the right tapered tennon size to get the stock to before using the tennon cutter. Help?

>i have one of these with the matching tapered reamer. at this point i have only played with it, plan on using it in the coming weeks when I start putting together a windsor that is taking forever to get around to. the stick I used had a rough taper on it when it came off the lathe that was slightly oversized but small enough to get past the end of the cutter, it worked like a charm for me. Basically you have to have a piece of wood that is of smaller diameter than the largest diameter of the taper cutter. if you want something that will cut larger diameter stuff try one of the LV power tenon cutters that you put in a drill, the rustic furniture makers use these, that one has a blade that will take down the diameter of a larger piece. if you did it right you could get one of the power tenon cutters of the right size, cut down the end of your piece to essentially a straight round tenon, then taper it with the tapered cutter.
