They were for heavier work, whether it be timber framing as most people picture it now ala' Ted Benson, This Old House, or any of the other Music Man/artisan timber types.

Could have just as easily been for run of the mill house/barn/industrial building work, millwright work, dock work, etc., anything where a heavier chisel was needed.

Most I sell now are to guys that say they're intending them for timber framing.
