40-1/2 lever cap?

>I picked up a 40 1/2 for cheap a long, long time ago. It was cheap because the lever cap had been broken and brazed back together. I figgured "how hard can it be to find a new cap". I'm still looking. I have found a couple, but they were about the same price as a complete 40 1/2. Oh, the guy I got it from had picked it up a long, long time earlier with the same idea. He finally gave up and sold it to me! I'm going to leave it as a project for my next-of-kin! I like my woodie scrub better, anyway.

>I have a printed catalog from St. James Tool Company (circa 2001) that lists a repro 40 1/2 lever cap & screw for $40. I'm not sure if they are bronze or iron. There are a lot of parts listed that aren't shown on their web page. The 40 and 40 1/2 lever caps aren't pictured but the infill lever caps shown below is a scan from the catalog. They're listed at $15 for rough castings and $35 tapped and drilled with hardware. The smallest lever cap is 1 3/8" wide - that might be an affordable substitution?

Standard disclaimer- just a happy customer. My FIL lives in the Phoenix area so I gloatably get to stop in in person during our annual visit.

>You are robbing my thunder. I am making a lever cap for a 40 1/2 and was planning to post a picture of my progress this weekend. I have some more of the same bronze. It is tough like steel and has been worried my tools like crazy. Do you want me to make one for you? Would you like a kit that you could finish yourself?
