Berg chisel handles

>I'm closing in on having a set of Berg chisels, a little at a time. I have just acquired a 3/4" blade w/o handle. Does anyone know what wood went into the original Bergs' handles? I'd like the replacement to be as close a match as possible.

Congrats on the Berg and am glad to hear you are closing in on a set.
From what I can recall the handles are birch and from the root.

have you seen the set of chisels on the bay now, NIB, unused? Uffda! It would be tempting, but I wouldn't want to acquire a tool and then not be able to use it!

They're some of my favorites, although I only have three.
I believe the wood is called Masur Birch. Ragweed Forge, a knifemaking site, has some.
