Tiny gloat -- skew chisels

Dave Mount

>Back when Record went the way of the dinos there were tons of excess stock Marples chisels on the 'Bay. I bought a 3/8" mortise chisel from some huge liquidation outfit, and twice they shipped me the wrong chisel, sending a 3/8" bevel edge chisel instead. Lucky for me, they told me just to keep them.

After trying to grind plane irons with the factory rest on my Delta grinder, I decided to spring for a decent rest and got the LV setup. Got it mounted today and decided to test drive it by making myself a pair of skew chisels out of those Marples chisels. Looking forward to the next dovetailing I do, never had skew chisels to clean out the corners. . .

Best,

Dave

Me too

>I too have ground down a pair of Marples chisels into a left and right skew. Mine are 1/4" chisels, and have the deluxe blue handle. Too bad yours have those undesired wood handles. ;-)

I must say I like them much more for this purpose than I ever liked them as a bench chisel!
