Disston pull saw

>More cleaning out of my father's garage has yielded (among four-five boxes of other stuff, much of it going to the Habitat store) something I don't find mentioned on the Disstonian Institute: a Disston pull saw. All this foofooraw about the Japanese saws, and here Disston was making them too. Medallion below; pic of full saw in next post.

I didn't believe it was a Disston at first, thinking someone had just used the medallion when they needed a saw screw; but I was able to clean up the blade well enough to see the etch ("Disston and Sons," with the keystone visible to the right of the name), though I couldn't get it to photograph.
When I get a round tuit, I think I'll clean it up thoroughly and see how it prunes compared to the cheapos I've always used. It's got quite a shapely handle (though, I must admit, not nearly as sexy as the handles on my old Disston backsaws). The saw plate is VERY heavy, and the teeth are chunky, so I'd expect it to be durable.

>Yes, I think so - if Disston pruning saws were worth $1,000, I'd consider selling it, but for what it would sell for, I think I'll keep it and see how it works.

>yours has style. Nice wooden handle and nice curve to it. Mines a chunk metal, very useful chunck, that's why it's not on a pole yet. Got to be the right pole.

>Sharpen that baby up you will find it works great. I bought one new about 25 years ago from an old mom and pop store that had been on the shelf for ever the owner said it works great! I had a yard service back then and it has pruned it's share of trees.
