Loopy plane
Dean Lapinel
>Since there are many that haven't been here long enough to know about the Loopy I have added some notes from the artist, Stephen Thomas (SMT).
"The loopy design started as a joke with me. A spoof on the whole superplane idea. The original 2 were to be a matched set of dueling planes in a custom French fitted box. So that gentleman cabinetmakers could settle antagonistic perspectives and matters of honor in a suitably gentlemanly manner. The loops were to make it harder, as a visual pun on the drawer joint vs. dovetails, and of course as a pun on the loopiness of the concept. (I do believe the loop and pin attachment is superior to dovetails structurally) In keeping, much of how the planes were designed was to make it even harder to build them, and to make it difficult to do them particularly by cnc, as many planemakers, Holtey included, have gone to for economic reasons."
