Veritas Mark II Honing Guide ques

Dominic Greco

>Hi Everyone,

I was looking through the latest LV catalog addendum and noticed that the wording for the Veritas Mark II Sharpening System had changed slightly. I noticed that it now mentions that this honing guide can hold small irons like those used in spoke shaves (which is very cool news).

Before I read that, I was all set to order the small blade holder to use just for this purpose (in conjunction with my older model Veritas Sharpening System).

Now I've been looking over this guide for a while (in anticipation on ordering one) How does this new honing guide manage to be able to hold those small blades?

See ya around,

Dominic

>Hi Dominic,

You will still need the small blade holder for at least some spokeshave blades. In the link below, third picture, is one that even if it were not so narrow in depth, is certainly too wide to fit into the clamps anyway.

Take care, Mike

>I don't know about the small blade issue, but if you are considering buying one; do. I got one for Christmas from my wife and have recently been messing around with it while waiting on the glue to dry. :) I am very impressed. There is no comparison to the old guide, which I have also. I find the old one difficult to use withtout the blade getting out of square and almost immediately upon using it that little rubber pad dropped off. The new one is very easy to set the blade/iron straight and to the correct bevel. I could not be happier with the guide. I just ordered a skew attachment so I can now accurately sharpen my new set of irons for my #46.

Cheers,

Mike

Already a done deal

>Yeah, I'm all set up to buy one as soon as I can get time to get my order together. The trouble is the longer I wait, the longer the "shopping list" gets! I just added a flattening stone, precision square, small blade holder, and finally a calendar.
